Users who have recently updated Google Maps may encounter an issue with the color scheme not automatically changing when using Android Auto.
Theoretically, when setting up Google Maps and Android Auto, users can activate three color scheme modes for Google Maps on the head unit, namely: automatic, day, and night.
However, after many users updated Google Maps, the color scheme stopped working correctly. Some users have the map stuck in night mode, others in day mode. Regardless of which mode it's stuck in, this poses a safety risk to users. If it's stuck in night mode during the day, users won't be able to see the map clearly. If it's stuck in day mode at night, it can be too distracting.

The cause of the automatic transmission failure
Based on numerous user comments, it can be confirmed that the cause of the problem with Google Maps' night mode on Android Auto is Google Maps itself . The most problematic versions of Google Maps are 11.33.0 and 11.33.1. Users with either of these versions of Google Maps are likely stuck in either dark or light mode.

The solution
-
Restore Google Maps to factory defaults.
-
Remove Google Maps and install an older version
-
Turning the headlights/dashboard lights on and off
If everything is set to automatically change the color scheme, turning the headlights/dashboard lights on and off will force Google Maps to switch to the correct mode. However, you'll encounter the same problem every time you use Android Auto again.
Conclusion
In the Google community, a member of the Android Auto team mentioned that the issue had been reported to the team, but didn't say when a fix would be available. We hope the Google Maps day/night auto mode issue in Android Auto will be resolved in the latest version of Google Maps.
